The short version: we collect the minimum a location game needs — your email, your dog's profile, and the spots you choose to mark. We never track you in the background, never show ads, and never sell your data.
Who we are
Sniffed is an independent app operated from London, United Kingdom. For anything in this policy, contact hello@sniffed.app.
What we collect
- Account — your email address and a securely hashed password, or your Apple/Google identity if you sign in with them. We also record when your email was verified.
- Dog profile — the name, optional breed, optional birthday, colour, and optional photo you give your dog.
- Marks — when you tap the paw button, we store that location (GPS point, accuracy, and time) and the map cell it falls in. Location is read only at that moment, in the foreground; Sniffed has no background location access.
- Notifications — if you opt in, a push token so we can send your weekly results. Signing out removes it.
What other players see
Sniffed is a game played on a shared map. Other players can see your dog's name, photo, colour, and standing in hexes, leaderboards, and weekly titles. They never see your email, your name, or a history of your movements — only the per-hex tallies the game is scored on.
How we use data
- Running the game: hex ownership, leaderboards, weekly crowns and titles.
- Transactional email: verification codes and password resets. No marketing email.
- Opt-in push notifications announcing weekly results.
We do not sell personal data, show ads, or use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
Services we rely on
Your data is processed by the infrastructure providers that run Sniffed:
- Vercel (hosting) and Neon (database) — store the data above.
- Mapbox — renders the map and names territories; it receives map-area coordinates for those features.
- Resend — delivers verification and password-reset emails to your address.
- Expo / Apple — deliver push notifications if you opt in.
- Apple or Google — only if you choose to sign in with them.
Retention, export, and deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account) — this permanently removes your account, dogs, photos, marks, crowns, and titles. For a copy of your data, email hello@sniffed.app and we'll send your export.
Children
Sniffed is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
